The bridge
Ponte Sisto is a pedestrian-only Renaissance bridge linking Trastevere to the Regola district near Campo de' Fiori, built in 1479 over the foundations of a Roman bridge. The view upriver at sunset — toward Castel Sant'Angelo with St Peter's dome beyond — is one of Rome's great evening sights.
The route
Start in Trastevere for aperitivo, cross Ponte Sisto at sunset, walk through the quiet Campo de' Fiori neighbourhood lanes to Piazza Farnese (the most underrated piazza in Rome), then continue to the Pantheon area for dinner.
Time it right
The 30 minutes around sunset in any season — the river light is best then, and the foot traffic thins compared to the midday or late-night rush.
