Day trip to Florence from Rome
Renaissance art and architecture, 90 minutes north by high-speed train.
Getting there
High-speed trains run from Roma Termini to Firenze Santa Maria Novella in around 90 minutes, making Florence the most accessible major city from Rome for a day trip.
What to see
The Uffizi Gallery holds the world's greatest collection of Renaissance painting — book tickets weeks ahead. The Accademia has Michelangelo's David. The Duomo and its baptistery are free to walk around outside and extraordinary at any angle.
Is a day enough
For a first visit, yes — if you pick two or three things rather than trying to cover everything. The Uffizi alone absorbs three to four hours; pair it with the Duomo and a long lunch and you have a full day without rushing.
