Rome's restaurant kitchens regularly serve until 11pm or later at weekends — "late night" in Rome starts after midnight, by which point options genuinely thin. The neighborhoods that keep going longest are Testaccio (clubs and late bars with food), Trastevere (bars with snacks), and the area around Campo de' Fiori.

Pizza by the slice

Several pizza al taglio shops in the historic center and Trastevere operate until 1 or 2am at weekends — a practical and genuinely good post-evening option. Look for shops where locals are eating rather than tourist-targeted spots selling day-old slices reheated.

Suppli and fried food

A handful of Roman fry shops stay open late — supplì, fried artichokes and battered cod at a price point that makes them the city's best late-night street food. Testaccio has the most reliable late-night options in this category.

Kebab and late-night casual options

Beyond specifically Roman late-night pizza and supplì, kebab shops (often run by Rome's Middle Eastern and North African immigrant communities) provide reliable, inexpensive late-night food in several central and Esquilino-area locations — a practical option when specifically Roman late-night choices are limited or closed.

24-hour options are genuinely rare

Unlike some cities with a robust all-night food culture, Rome has relatively few truly 24-hour food options — planning for last orders somewhere between 1am and 3am at the latest, rather than assuming round-the-clock availability, sets more realistic expectations.
