What to look for
Via del Boschetto and Via degli Zingari have the best concentration of wine bars and small trattorias. Piazza della Madonna dei Monti fills with locals for aperitivo from 6pm — park yourself at the fountain and observe how the neighbourhood actually works before picking a restaurant.
