Staying in Rome with a baby or toddler
What actually changes when you travel to Rome with a very young child.
Where to stay
Prati is the standout choice — flat streets, supermarkets within walking distance, easy metro access, and generally larger hotel rooms than the historic center at similar prices.
Pushchairs and cobblestones
Rome's historic center is largely paved with sampietrini — rounded cobblestones that are genuinely difficult with a pushchair. A baby carrier or sling is a practical supplement for the most heavily cobbled areas like Trastevere and Monti.
Essentials
Major supermarket chains stock standard baby supplies — formula, nappies, jars. Farmacies (pharmacies) stock a good range of infant medicines and can advise without an appointment.
